With all that is going around now and keeping me busy, I often forget I have an advertising man side of my life as well. (I hope my boss isn't reading this!)

How big is the internet advertising market in BD? pretty small i suppose?

Farhan, interestingly, this year, Internet Advertising spend in UK will exceed that on television. There may be many reasons - the unique composition of UK TV market [with its free channels, advert-free BBC etc], the shift towards service economy and linguistic homogenity - but this is very significant. Is there a specialist internet advertising company in Bangladesh yet?

I wonder what is the absolute total reachable market on the Internet. if you were able to reach everyone who is reachable on via the Internet, what is that number?

Good point you raise.

Yes the internet advertising market is really small here. 300,000 users I am told. And these are the influencer crowd.

But it is growing very fast. Already some of the news site get more hits than their print versions. Prothom Alo I am told is charging subscription for viewing. (in the long run I don't think that will work).

Market currently is very baised towards the NRB users wanting to stay in touch with Desh. But with more local youth users coming onboard, social networking sites will flourish. We are building one at dhakahotties.com.

We are currently designing inteactive sites for two of our youth and childern oriented brands. It is still cheap for us to experiment on this and not spend tons of money behind it.

The ironic thing is that the next big growth of advertising in Bangladesh will come from two opposite ends. One will be mixture of internet + mobile advertising and the other rural contact programs.

Farhan - Are you also offering analytic services of any kind to these brands you are developing websites for? Also, will they be connected to a search engine of some kind?

It will be interesting to know how these sites do when you launch them.

Actually what we are doing is giving the advertising strategy for internet advertising.

While we are doing the basic layout of the website and giving the ideas behind the content, we are not developing the site per se.

Search engine optimisation is also something we should look at. But this is mostly for a local carbonated beverage brand. Do you think we need to have a very high google rank?

On the traffic analysis side I am sure the hosts will have a bevy of data available for us.
